Arthur Avenue has been on my "to visit" list for a long time. I finally was able to stop by this past weekend (after the NYBG extravaganza) and regretted not visiting earlier. Luckily, I went the day before easter so there were plenty of people milling around and buying dead lambs to commemorate the death and coming-back-to-life of their dead lamb, the little baby Jesus.
Lambs were sawn in half from head to tail. Half a brain, half a tongue...
Close up. It's really quite amazing that they can do this.
A Korean Madonna!! Now that's a religion I can believe in.

While I am a great fan of bisected meat, particularly in honour of some mythical deity, I have always found myself a little disappointed in Arthur Avenue. Apart from the butchers, where many hand-made salamis have been purchased, I think the rest of the street is a bit of a let down! The interesting part is short. The shops are really no better than those in other parts of New York. It is hard to get to without a car. It is a long way from Brooklyn. But then again, disappointment is an emotion to be savoured... so it is nice to be disappointed every now and then.

I agree...but the meat alone made me happy enough so that I didn't get to savor my disappointment.
